Typically planted indoors, this plant prefers high humidity and is tolerant of being around animals. In spite of its common name, this species of epiphytic plant is not related to the rubber plant (Ficus elastica). Instead, it is a member of the huge Peperomia genus, and the epithet obtusifolia means blunt-leaved.
